Inside The Watchmaking World At Watches & Wonders

By Roberta Naas | January 21, 2020 | Style & Beauty

There are so many different ways to immerse yourself in the watch world. Many watch brands offer incredible experiences when you purchase a special timepiece. Additionally, exhibits right here in America let you choose what you want to see, touch and feel when it comes to new timepieces.

Watches & Wonders Miami
In mid-February 2020, a casual and highly immersive watch exhibition, Watches & Wonders Miami, will take place in the Miami Design District—as it has for the past two years—and will be open to the public for free.

Last year, more than 30 top luxury brands from Richemont, LVMH and more came together to showcase their newest watches. There was even a pavilion specially built for the independent watch brands. More than a dozen new watches, including a couple of world-premiere unveilings, were released during this show, and we expect to see even more exciting new releases during the 2020 exhibition.

Some brands not only bring in watches never before seen in the United States, but also showcase special exhibits and speakers. Last year, Omega invited astronaut Gen. Thomas Stafford to discuss the brand’s relationship with NASA, while another brand had a famous street artist present and Vacheron Constantin brought an exclusive series of historical pieces.

Additionally, the organizers of the show offered watchmaking courses and other educational events throughout the weekend. There were also tours of the artwork and sculptures at the Miami Design District, a host of cocktail parties and a first-night gala in the Palm Court.

Buy a Panerai, Buy an Adventure
This year, Panerai partners for the first time with its brand ambassadors to create special adventures. One such event is to join world-famous explorer Mike Horn, who has traveled to the North Pole in darkness and climbed 8,000-meter peaks without oxygen. Guests will fly to Norway and board Horn’s amphibious Pangaea boat to trek the glaciers and ice floes of the Arctic in search of the Northern Lights. For this adventure, one must buy the Panerai Submersible Mike Horn Special Edition watch. Limited to 19 editions, $41,000, Panerai, 400 E. Hyman Ave.
