Krug Champagne Encounter Dinner Party

One particularly exquisite dinner party was held at the home of art patrons John and Amy Phelan on July 12. An intimate group of Aspenites gathered on the upper terrace of the Phelan home at sunset. While enjoying a glass of Krug Grande Cuvée and canapés by Matsuhisa, actor-singer Darren Criss appeared on a small stage with a keyboard and guitar. Richard Beaumont of Moet Hennessy announced that Criss had just hours before received an Emmy nomination for his performance in The Assassination of Gianni Versace. While most guests knew Criss from the series as a murderous villain, all were immediately charmed by the young star’s charisma and musical talent as he serenaded the group. We were then ushered into the front hall where a single candlelit table was set for a multi-course meal featuring Krug 2003 and Chilean sea bass prepared by Matsuhisa. The heady evening was topped off with a living room performance by Criss accompanied by a string quartet.
