Get Outdoors and See the Sights

The road to Maroon Bells has officially reopened for the summer, making it the perfect time to cross a trip to the iconic mountains off your bucket list. Explore the staggering twin peaks by grabbing some friends and family for a picnic or go for a hike up to Crater Lake. Weather conditions permitting, Independence Pass is also set to reopen just in time for Memorial Day Weekend. Take a drive up this scenic route that meanders along the river and up to the Continental Divide. While making your way up the pass, don't forget to stop and check out the Grottos, a favorite local spot known for its waterfalls and ice caves.

See Movies at the Aspen Art Museum

This season, the Aspen Art Museum’s Movies at the Museum program presents films that complement Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition Mentors, Muses, and Celebrities. This month, the museum presents What Happened, Miss Simone? on May 27, charting the life of classically trained pianist, dive-bar chanteuse, black power icon, and legendary recording artist Nina Simone. The movie begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 637 E. Hyman Ave., 970-925-8050

Aspen Skiing Co. announced that it would extend the 2015-16 season for at least one more weekend. Over Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30, about 120 acres of terrain will be available off the Ajax Express chair from 9 a.m.-2 pm, with uploading and downloading until 4 pm via the Silver Queen Gondola.

List to Can’t-Miss Music at Belly Up

Recreating the look, sound, and attitude of Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan, Izzy Stradlin, and Steven Adler of Guns N’ Roses, Appetite for Destruction is the ultimate cover band experience with more than 20 years of practice. The quartet will appear on May 28 at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($5 surcharge for under 21). Then on May 29, Atlanta rapper B.o.B. will take the stage. B.o.B. is one of the most unique and eccentric musical artists to emerge in the 2010s, often drawing comparisons to OutKast (specifically that group's offbeat half, André 3000). Tickets are $15 ($5 surcharge for under 21). Show starts at 9 p.m. 450 S. Galena St., 970-544-9800
